    The effects of AI in digital education on student leraning and teaching practices in higher education in Mogadishu, Somalia

    This thesis explores the effects of AI in digital education on student learning and teaching practices in higher education in Mogadishu, Somalia. With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and its integration into various sectors, educational institutions in Somalia are increasingly adopting AI-driven tools to enhance the learning experience and improve teaching methodologies. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative quationnaire to gather data from students and teachers in Mogadishu, Somalia. The primary objectives are to assess the effectiveness of AI-powered platforms in facilitating learning, identify the challenges faced by users, and understand the overall influence on teaching practices. Quantitative data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis through SPSS v. 29. The study used a thematic analysis for qualitative data where the researchers identified, analyzed, and reported patterns or themes within the qualitative data collected by from the participants of the study. Key findings indicate that AI-powered platforms significantly improve access to educational resources, provide personalized learning experiences, and enhance student engagement. The research also reveals that while educators appreciate the potential of AI tools to supplement traditional teaching methods, there is a need for continuous updates and improvements to address these challenges effectively. The thesis concludes with recommendations for policymakers, educational institutions, and technology developers to optimize the use of AI in education. By addressing the identified challenges and leveraging the benefits, AI-powered educational platforms can play a crucial role in transforming higher education in Somalia, making it more inclusive, efficient, and effective.
