    The hydrological impact of Tharthar Lake basin and its importance a field study using geographic information systems (GIS)

    Water is considered one of the basics of life, and due to population increase and climate change, the world is going through a crisis in water provision, Iraq is one of the countries exposed to water shortages due to the country's location in an arid climate, it is necessary to find ways to compensate for the water shortage, the most important of which is correct water management and how to exploit the lake's water. Lake Tharthar basin represents the primary hydrological system within Iraq. This study investigates the hydrological impact of the Lake Tharthar basin and confirms its importance in regional water dynamics. Using GIS as a powerful tool, a large-scale field study was conducted to analyze various hydrological factors, including land use, topography, rainfall patterns, surface water flow, and groundwater levels. The environmental and agricultural reality of the region. The research aims to comprehensively assess hydrological processes within the Lake Tharthar Basin, focusing on understanding the complex relationships between natural and human factors. GIS has facilitated spatial analysis and visualization, allowing detailed characterization of the hydrological components of the basin. In addition, it has supported the development of accurate predictive models of water flow patterns, helping to make informed decisions regarding water resources management and sustainable development. A field survey and lake water analysis were conducted. Geographic information systems technology was also used in this study, in addition to data obtained from local service departments, in determining the depths and plans used for water management and benefiting from the water of lakes, especially Lake Tharthar, which highlighted the importance of correct correction. Using administrative plans to exploit water and methods of monitoring it. Modern technologies contribute to rationalizing water consumption and utilizing it properly to fill the shortage and provide water for agricultural, industrial, and human use.
