Yayın Gender inequality as an international issue: tracing through history(İstanbul Gedik Üniversitesi, 2023) Parladan Hatay, Gizem; Sezer, SelimThroughout history, from ancient civilizations to the present day, gender inequality has been a recurring issue that has impacted the lives of women. In ancient times, wom en faced legal restrictions, social subordination, and economic dependence. These challenges continued into the Medieval Period, where Christian teachings and feudal societal structures further limited women's opportunities for education and intellectual pursuits (Lytje, M., 2004). However, notable women artists, writers, and patrons emerged, leaving their mark on history (Pieretti, M., 2002). During the Renaissance, women continued to face barriers to education and artistic professions, but some managed to make significant contributions in their respective fields. The Enlightenment era brought about advancements in science and philosophy, but ideas of equality did not extend fully to women, leading to the rise of feminist thinkers and activists who challenged social norms (Assiter, A.,1995). The Industrial Revolution brought significant socioeconomic changes, with women entering factory work but facing exploitation and harsh conditions. This period also saw the emergence of early feminist movements fighting for improved rights and recognition. The 19th and early 20th centuries marked the First and Second Wave Feminism, pushing for suffrage rights and broader social and political equality. In conclusion, gender inequality has persisted throughout history, but women have continually fought for their rights and made significant contributions. Progress has been made, but challenges remain. It is crucial to continue advocating for gender equality, dismantling achal systems, and creating inclusive societies that recognize and value the rights and contributions of all individuals, regardless of gender.
