The use of volunteers in sports organizations provides financial, cultural, and social benefits, and provides an important resource for the organizers in terms of management. Volunteering of university students who have not yet joined the workforce in sports organizations opens different doors for both the organization and university students. In this context, the aim of this study, which is based on the necessity of conducting research on the motivations of university students to volunteer in sports organizations, is to examine the general motivation levels of university students to volunteer in sports organizations, the sub-dimensions of their motivation and the demographic factors that affect their motivation. The study was carried out with the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The sample of the study consists of 206 undergraduate students from two universities in Istanbul, one of which is a foundation university, and the other is a public university. Data on the study were collected with the Volunteer Motivation Scale for International Sports Organizations. 7-point Likert scale was used. The analysis of the data was made with the SPSS 25.0 program, and the data on demographic variables were evaluated according to frequency analysis. According to the results of the normality test, analyses were performed with the Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskal Wallis-H test, which are non-parametric tests. In the light of the findings of the study, university students have a high level of volunteering in sports organizations in the sub-dimensions of expression of values, love of sports, career orientation and interpersonal relations; In the sub-dimension of extrinsic rewards, it was seen that he had a moderate level of motivation. In the analyzes made on demographic variables, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of foundation university students in general in the sub-dimensions of love of sports, career orientation and extrinsic rewards and volunteering motivation according to the type of university (state-foundation), while no statistical difference was found in other variables. It has been concluded that volunteering motivation of the volunteers who are actively involved in sports is related to social and organizational phenomena, and that university students, especially those studying at a foundation university, see volunteering as a career tool.
