dc.description.abstractKentler, zaman kavramının önemli ve etkili olduğu artifaktlardır. Zamanın ilerleyişi ile beraber, kentsel mekanlar farklı anlamlar kazanarak var olmaya devam ederler Döngüsel zaman dilimi içerisinde, devam edegelen bir değişimin merkezinde yer alan kentsel mekan üzerinden, bir döneme ait yaşantı izlerini ve kentin çok katmanlı tarihini okumak mümkündür. Kentin bu yapıları ve yapılı çevreleri, kentin zamansal süreç içerisinde değişimin biyografileri haline gelirler. Her kent biriktirdiği bu çok katmanlı anlamsallığı muhafaza etmek konusunda aynı şansa sahip değildir. Çeşitli afetler, savaşlar, istilalar vb. sebeplerle tahrip olmanın yanı sıra, insan eliyle ve egemen güçler vasıtasıyla da kentlerin sahip oldukları bu çok anlamlılık ve tarihsel süreklilik kesintiye uğrayabilmektedir. Berlin kenti, bahsi geçen tarihsel sürekliliği kesintiye uğrayan kentlerin başında gelmektedir. II. Dünya Savaşı’nın getirdiği yıkım, kenti adeta bir harabeye dönüştürmüştür. Kent, yaşadığı bu ağır tahribatı, kolektif hafızanın bir zemini haline getirmiş, mimarlık yarışmaları yoluyla kent belleğinin kesintisiz devamlılığını sağlamıştır. Çalışma, mimarlık yarışmalarının ‘yeniden işlevlendirme’ potansiyelini, Berlin kenti örneği üzerinden okumayı amaç edinmiştir.
dc.description.abstractCities are artefacts where the concept of time is important and effective. With the progression of the time, urban spaces continue to exist by gaining different meanings. Within the cyclical period of time, it is possible to read the traces of life belonging to a period and the multi-layered history of the city through the urban space which is at the centre of an ongoing change. These structures and built environments of the city become biographies of change in the temporal process of the city. Every city does not have the same chance to preserve this multi-layered meaningfulness it has accumulated. In addition to being destroyed due to reasons such as various disasters, wars, invasions, etc., this multiple meaningfulness and historical continuity of the cities can be interrupted by human beings and the sovereign powers. The city of Berlin is one of the cities of which historical continuity was interrupted. The destruction brought by World War II turned the city into a ruin. The city has turned this heavy destruction into a ground of collective memory and provided uninterrupted continuity of the city memory through architectural competitions. This study aims to read the 'refunctioning' potential of architectural competitions through the example of the city of Berlin.
