This research was carried out to determine whether there is a relationship between the eating behaviors of university students, who are more sensitive in terms of eating attitudes and disorders, and their methods of coping with stress and personality traits. A total of 472 students, 119 male and 353 female, participated in the study. Socio-demographic Form, Eating Attitudes Test Short Form (YTT-26), Coping with Stress Scale (SSS) and Adjective-Based Personality Inventory (SDCI) were administered to the participants. In order to analyze the data, independent sample t-test and ANOVA were applied. Pearson Correlation, hierarchical regression analysis and mediator role analysis were applied to examine the relationship between personality traits, eating behaviors and coping skills. According to the findings obtained in the study, it was observed that there was a significant difference in eating attitude scores in terms of variables such as gender, education level, income level, diagnosed psychological disorder, family history of psychological disorder. According to the findings related to personality traits and eating behavior, emotional instability was found to be positively and significantly related to eating attitudes. When the relationship between the ways of coping with stress and eating attitudes was examined, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the sub-dimension of coping with stress and the restrictive eating behavior. When the mediating role of the problem orientation sub-dimension in coping with stress was examined in the relationship between emotional instability and restrictive eating attitude, it was found that the problem orientation sub-dimension had a partial mediator role in the relationship between emotional instability and restrictive eating attitude scores. It is thought that the results obtained in the research provide important data in terms of understanding the individual and environmental factors affecting the eating attitude. It is thought that this study, which is expected to contribute to the literature on eating attitudes and psychopathology, may support future research.
