This research; the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the concept of prenatal attachment and object relations, which expresses the basis of all relations to be established between mother and baby in pregnant women, in terms of defense mechanisms. It was investigated whether the prenatal attachment, object relations and defense mechanisms of the pregnants differed according to their demographic variables (gestational week, pregnancy risk, number of pregnancies). Whether there is a relationship between object relations and prenatal attachment; It is aimed to determine whether defense mechanisms have a mediating role in the relationship between object relations and prenatal attachment. The sample of the study consists of 293 pregnant women living in Turkey who participated in the study on a voluntary basis. The research was used the correlational survey methods. The data of the research; Personal Information Form, which was created to obtain demographic and pregnancy information of the participants, was collected using the Bell Object Relations and Reality Testing Inventory (BORRTI) Object Relations Dimension, Defense Styles Test and Prenatal Attachment Inventory. As a result of statistical analysis; Prenatal attachment scores differed according to the gestational week; It was determined that there was no difference according to pregnancy risk and number of pregnancies. Among the sub-dimensions of defense styles, immature defenses differ according to gestational week and pregnancy risk; did not differ according to the number of pregnancies; it was determined that other sub-dimensions did not differ according to demographic variables. Insecure attachment, which is one of the sub-dimensions of object relations, differs according to the gestational week and pregnancy risk; It was found that there was no difference according to the number of pregnancies. The scores of egocentrism and alienation from the sub-dimensions of object relations differed according to the gestational week; It was determined that there was no difference according to pregnancy risk and number of pregnancies. It was determined that the social disability sub-dimension did not differ according to demographic variables. Significant relationships were found between prenatal attachment and egocentrism, mature defenses and neurotic defenses. No significant relationship was found between prenatal attachment and alienation, insecure attachment, social inadequacy and immature defenses. Significant relationships were found between egocentrism and all sub-dimensions except mature defenses. It was determined that neurotic defense fully mediated the relationship between prenatal attachment and egocentrism. The findings of the research were discussed within the scope of the literature; The importance of the effect of object relations and defense mechanisms on prenatal attachment was emphasized.
