Turkey and the United States (U.S.) have an almost three-quarters of a century old formal alliance since the end of Second World War and Turkey's membership into NATO. Still being the strongest military, diplomatic, and economic power of the world, the U.S. is the most important actor of world politics, whereas Turkey is an influential regional actor that is a member of G20 and NATO. During this considerable period, the two countries had some significant diplomatic issues, especially the Cyprus Dispute in the 1960s and 1970s and the Kurdish Question in the 1990s and 2000s. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War period, Turkish-American Relations entered into a new period with changing dynamics and global geopolitical structure. This transition period, which is still ongoing, created both new opportunities and new problems. This chapter aims to analyze Turkish-American Relations in the post-Cold War era by establishing a theoretical framework and focusing on the most important events that took place during the terms of different American Presidents as well as positive and negative aspects in bilateral relations.
