Özet

In this study, the wear behavior of GG20 and GG25 gray cast iron materials was investigated under dry sliding condition. In the first stage of the study, the matrix phases (ferrite/pearlite) were determined in addition to the morphology and distribution of graphite, using light microscope and scanning electron microscope. In the second stage, wear tests were carried out using "ball-on-disc" type tribometer. In the wear test, load, total distance and rotating speed were selected as 10 N, 250 m and 100 rpm, respectively. The results were evaluated using the friction coefficient-distance diagram and calculating wear-induced volume loss as well as specific wear rate values. All worn surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscope and wear characteristics of cast iron materials were discussed as a function of the matrix phases and the amount and distribution of graphite phase. It was concluded that (i) hardness value and amount of the graphite phase were higher for GG20 material compared to the GG25 material, (ii) the mean friction coefficient of GG20 material was lower than that of GG25 material due to its higher hardness and the lubricant effect of graphite phase, (iii) wearinduced volume loss for GG20 material was higher than GG25 material after the wear test, due to the breaking tendency of graphite phase under load, (iv) all worn surfaces exhibited typical abrasiveadhesive tracks.
