dc.description.abstractIn this study, the flapping pectoral fin structure of the manta ray has been mimicked with radial scissor mechanisms. The flapping behavior for swimming is configured via generative design using two different scissor mechanisms. The bioinspired four-cell and six-cell robotic fin structures are designed, analyzed and additively manufactured for comparison purpose. Experimental and numerical analysis are conducted to unveil the displacement, and stress distribution parameters for both structures. A comparison is made between the experimental and numerical analysis results.
